Victoria pioneers passkey access on the myVicRoads app

VicRoads has become the first in Australia to introduce a passkey login for the digital driver licence wallet app, setting a benchmark for secure and seamless access to registration and licensing services.

As of July 2025, customers using the myVicRoads app can log in using passkeys – a faster, safer, and simpler method that uses built-in phone features like Face ID, fingerprint or PIN.

Passkeys are 5.5 times faster than traditional logins, saving customers over 30,000 days of login time every year – that's more than 82 years of time back in their hands.

What are passkeys?

Passkeys replace traditional usernames and passwords with a secure pair of cryptographic keys – one stored on your device, the other held by VicRoads.

Combined with biometric authentication, this makes it significantly harder for scammers to gain access. And because passkeys only work on the official VicRoads app or website, customers are protected from phishing and fake login pages.
