Two-step verification

Two-step verification offers extra security for your myVicRoads partner account.

When you log in to your myVicRoads partner account, we’ll ask you to complete two-step verification as an added layer of security.

Once you’ve entered your username and password, we’ll send a one-time unique code to your phone to enter before you can get into your account.

Two-step authentication is a modern industry standard for security, and is used by banks, government departments, insurance companies and other organisations that hold sensitive information.

Setting up two-step verification

When you first log in to your myVicRoads partner account, we’ll show you how to set up your two-step verification.

Your one-time unique code can be sent to you as an SMS or to an authenticator app on your device. When you first sign up, you will be able to choose which option suits you better. You can change this at any time through your settings.

An authenticator app like Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator offers more security than an SMS as they use an extra layer of encryption. You can easily download these from the App Store or Google Play.

If you don’t have a mobile phone, you can still activate two-step verification using an authenticator app on a different smart device, such as a tablet.

Some desktop computer devices may allow desktop authenticator apps to be used. If you don’t want to download an app, you can use the SMS method instead and receive a text message to your mobile phone.

Trust my device

When you log in to your myVicRoads partner account using your trusted device, you’ll only have to complete the two-step verification process once every 12 hours.

When you log in using the one-time unique code at the start of your day, select “trust my device” on the login screen and you won’t have to enter a code again for the next 12 hours. After the 12-hour period, you’ll have to complete the two-step verification process again.

You can have up to three trusted devices on your account. If you want to remove a device you can either manage your devices through your profile, or simply add a new device and the least recently added device will be removed.

If a device gets lost or stolen

If you have a security issue with one of your devices, any admins on your account will be able to activate global signout. This will log any active users out of your account, and delete all the trusted devices associated with the account. To get back into your account, all you’ll need to do is log in again with the one-time unique code, and your device will be added to the list of trusted devices associated with the account.
