Find solutions to common sign-up issues.

I have a current licence and current vehicle, trailer or boat registered with VicRoads

Documents you need to sign up:
  • Your driver licence, learner permit or marine licence
  • Vehicle or Vessel (Boat) registration certificate or renewal notice.
Details you need to sign up:
  • Your driver licence, learner permit or marine licence number
  • Your additional security card number as it appears on the back of your physical licence
  • Your address as it appears on your licence or permit
  • Your vehicle or boat (vessel) registration number
  • Your last name as it appears on your licence or permit
  • Your date of birth
  • You will require a valid email address, the email address can only be used for one account and cannot be shared by other myVicRoads users.

I have a current licence but no vehicle, trailer or boat registered with VicRoads

Documents you need  to sign up:
  • Your driver licence, learner permit or marine licence
Details you need to sign up:
  • Your driver licence, learner permit or marine licence number
  • Your address as it appears on your licence or permit
  • Your Last name as it appears on your licence or permit
  • Your date of birth.

I don’t have a current licence but I do have a current vehicle, trailer or boat registered with VicRoads.

Documents required for sign up:
  • Vehicle or Vessel (Boat) registration certificate or renewal notice
Details required to sign up:
  • Your vehicle or boat (vessel) registration number
  • Your Last name as it appears on your registration certificate or renewal notice
  • Your VicRoads customer number as it appears on your registration certificate or renewal notice
  • Your date of birth
  • Your address as it appears on your registration certificate or renewal notice.

I’m getting the error message ‘details could not be verified’

We check your details to make sure you're the correct account owner when you sign up. Sometimes we have trouble verifying your details.

If you're seeing this message, it would be for one of the following reasons:

Your licence number couldn't be verified

Enter your licence number as written on your licence or permit, for example if it is less than 9 digits; insert one or more '0's before your number to make it 9 digits.

If your licence number is 98124, it would be displayed as 000098124. So enter the number 000098124. 

Your additional security card number couldn’t be verified

Enter your additional security card number as it appears on the back of your physical licence. This number will be located in the top right-hand corner, under your date of birth in small font (if your licence was issue prior to November 2022) or on the change of address label. 

Note: For security reasons, we are unable to provide you with your additional security card number over the phone.

Your registration number couldn't be verified

Check your registration certificate to make sure the vehicle you are using is registered in your name, e.g. not your spouse’s name.
Note: Club permit and Trade plate registration numbers cannot be used to verify your identity and are not displayed in a myVicRoads personal account.

Your address couldn't be verified

Enter your address as displayed on your licence or permit card, e.g. Flat 10 77 Sample Parade Kew East Vic 3102. You can pick from the list displayed only if it matches your licence exactly.

You might have an old address listed with us. Try entering a previous address (you can change this in your account once activated).
 


  


Passwords

Your password must be strong in order to create an account.

A strong password can be up to 99 characters in length.

Your password must meet the following criteria:

  • must be a minimum of 8 characters in length
  • contain at least one lower case character (a-z)
  • contain at least one upper case character (A-Z)
  • contain at least one numeric character (0-9)
  • contain at least one special character (eg, &%$!)

You notice a mistake in your details.

To fix a mistake:

  • Click Edit
  • Make any changes
  • Click next to return to the confirm details step.


Activation emails

It might take a few moments for your email to come through. If you don’t receive it within 60 minutes try the following;
  • Check your junk or spam folder in case the email has been incorrectly filtered
  • Click the link to resend your activation email (only available on the step 4 sign up page)
  • Once you’ve activated your account via email, you'll need to log in and follow the prompts to set up two-step verification.

  • Android Mobile 5.1.1

For myVicRoads to work correctly, you might need to install the latest browser version. If you're not sure which browser or version you're using, this website (External link) can help you find out.   

Other browser issues

If you're having trouble with these supported browsers, it could be due to your browser settings. 

You might need to:

  • enable cookies
  • clear your cache (or delete temporary internet files)

Refer to your browser's help section to find out how to change these settings.
