Transfer a vehicle to or from a trust

If your trust is purchasing a vehicle, you will need to nominate a trustee to be the registered operator of the vehicle.

To transfer the registration of a vehicle to a new trustee, you’ll need to provide:

  • an original or certified copy of the Deed of Trust listing both the current registered operator and the acquirer of the vehicle as trustees, or
  • if the acquirer is not one of the original trustees, the original deed of trust must be accompanied by an original Deed of Appointment of a New Trustee (it must identify the current registered operator as the 'retiring trustee' - statutory declarations won't be accepted)
  • complete and sign the vehicle transfer form (PDF 301KB)

The transfer will be exempt from payment of transfer fee and motor vehicle duty, and from providing a roadworthy certificate.
