Transfer a vehicle to or from a trust

To transfer the registration of a vehicle to a trust, you'll need to provide: 

• an original or certified copy of the Deed of Trust
• the VicRoads customer number of the trustee (If the trustee does not have a Victorian licence or VicRoads customer number, they will need to attend a VicRoads Customer Service Centre and provide full evidence of identity documents)
• a completed and signed vehicle transfer form (PDF 301KB)
• a current and original roadworthy Certificate (that's not been issued more than 30 days before the date of transfer)
• the transfer fee and motor vehicle duty

You can lodge the documentation by either:

• posting it to VicRoads, GPO BOX 1644, Melbourne VIC, 3001 (provide a certified copy of the Deed of Appointment of a New Trustee)
• visiting a VicRoads Customer Service Centre with evidence of identity

To transfer the registration of a vehicle from a trust, you’ll need to complete the standard process to buy a registered vehicle.

Lodge the documentation within 14 days of transfer by either:

• posting it to VicRoads, GPO BOX 1644, Melbourne VIC, 3001
• visiting a VicRoads Customer Service Centre with evidence of identity

To transfer the registration of a vehicle to a new trustee, you’ll need to provide:

• an original or certified copy of the Deed of Trust listing both the current registered operator and the acquirer of the vehicle as trustees, or
• if the acquirer is not one of the original trustees, the original deed of trust must be accompanied by an original Deed of Appointment of a New Trustee (it must identify the current registered operator as the 'retiring trustee' - statutory declarations won't be accepted)
• complete and sign the vehicle transfer form (PDF 301KB)
• lodge the documentation by either:
  • posting it to VicRoads, GPO BOX 1644, Melbourne VIC, 3001 (provide a certified copy of the Deed of Appointment of a New Trustee)
  • visiting a VicRoads Customer Service Centre with evidence of identity

The transfer will be exempt from payment of transfer fee and motor vehicle duty, and from providing a roadworthy certificate.
