Construction requirements for light trailers or caravans

Construction requirements for light trailers or caravans with an aggregate trailer mass (ATM) of 4.5 tonne or less.

To be eligible for registration in Victoria, all new and imported light trailers:

• If never previously registered in Australia, will need to meet the Commonwealth Road Vehicle Standards legislation certification requirements.
• Must comply with Vehicle Standards Bulletin 1 Version 6.
• Need to have an approval from the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications and Arts (DITRDCA). To apply for an approval, go to DITRDCA Road Vehicle Regulator (ROVER) (external link).
• Must be recorded on the Commonwealth Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV).
