Vehicles modified for wheelchair use

Find out about registration concessions that are available if a vehicle’s been modified to make it accessible for people with disabilities or injuries.

A vehicle might be eligible for a 100% discount on the registration fee* if

  • modified to be driven by a person who uses a wheelchair,
  • modified to transport people who use wheelchairs or whose mobility is profoundly impaired, or
  • designed solely to transport a person with profound injuries or disabilities

*Motor vehicle duty and annual TAC fees still apply.

Pensioners

If you're eligible for one of these concessions and you have an eligible Centrelink pension card, you can claim both concessions at once. That means you'll get a 100% discount on the registration fee, and the TAC fee you need to pay will be reduced.

Stamp duty

If you're registering or transferring a vehicle that’s eligible for one of these concessions, you can apply to be exempt from paying stamp duty (AKA 'motor vehicle duty').

To find out how to do this, go to the State Revenue Office (External link) website.
