Veterans Card Victoria

Victoria thanks Australian Defence Force (ADF) members for their service.

Registration concessions are available to past and present ADF members living in Victoria. You can apply for a Veterans Card Victoria (VCV) through the Service Victoria app or on the Service Victoria website.

Veterans who hold a Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) gold card or DVA written confirmation can also access these concessions. Visit Registration Concessions to find out more.

Civilian ADF employees aren’t eligible for the digital Veterans card.

What benefits are available?

The following annual benefits are available for eligible VCV holders.

  • $100 off motor vehicle (or motorcycle) registration

A discount of up to $100 per annum on registration and renewal fees for one light motor vehicle (including motorcycle) per veteran which is used for personal, social or domestic purposes. A light motor vehicle is defined as having a gross vehicle mass of 4.5 tonnes or less.

This discount can be applied to the vehicle of the VCV holder or the vehicle of their spouse, domestic partner or their carer.

The discount can be applied on a pro-rata basis for 3 and 6-month registrations. For example, $50 discount for 6-month registration and $25 discount for 3-month registration.

Note that if your spouse, domestic partner or carer is already receiving another discount or concession on any light motor vehicle registered in their name, they can’t also get the VCV discount.

  • Free marine licence or renewal of a marine licence

This includes free addition of a personal watercraft endorsement.

  • Free trailer registration.

  • Free caravan registration.

How to get the discounts

Ensure you have a VCV card, then login to myVicRoads and complete the VicRoads Veterans Card Victoria discount application inside the portal. You need to complete this at least 5 business days before your registration is due to ensure the concession is applied. You’ll need to include your VCV number or DVA Gold Card details (card or written confirmation from DVA).

You can also visit a VicRoads Customer Service Centre. It’s recommended that you first print and complete the Application for Veterans Card Victoria (VCV) discount form [95 Kb]. At the Customer Service Centre, you’ll need to show your VCV or DVA Gold card in your Service Victoria digital wallet, or confirmation email from Service Victoria.

Conditions

  • The VCV discount can be applied to your next marine licence renewal up to six months (not earlier) before the expiry date.
  • A marine licence can only be issued for free on a yearly renewal basis. Your marine licence renewal notice will not have the VCV discount applied. To obtain the free marine licence you must apply for the VCV discount at each renewal.
  • Apart from the ZLEV discount, you can’t apply multiple concessions or discounts to the same light motor vehicle registration.
  • If you have more than one vehicle you can’t apply the DVA discount to that and the VCV discount to the other.
  • If you have both a DVA Gold Card and a VCV, you can’t apply the unused concession or discount to a partner or spouse’s vehicle.

If you’ve used your DVA Gold Card for your motor vehicle you can still apply the VCV to receive a concession on a trailer, caravan or marine licence.

  • If you have paid for the issue or renewal of your registration or licence before you apply for the discount, you can’t get a refund but you’ll be able to use the VCV concession for future renewals.
