120 hours driving experience

All learner drivers under the age of 21 are required to complete 120 hours of supervised driving (including 20 hours at night) and record these hours in their learner log book.

120 hours of supervised driving

Learner drivers under the age of 21 must complete a minimum of 120 hours of supervised driving experience (including at least 20 hours at night) before they can take the drive test.

These hours must be recorded in the myLearners app, or an official learner log book that’s signed by the learner driver and their supervising driver.

This log book is given to the learner driver free of charge when they pass the learner permit test, and the myLearners app is free to download.

Learner drivers who do not accumulate 120 hours (including at least 20 hours at night) and have not been exempted from this requirement, will not be allowed to take the drive test and will forfeit their appointment and test fees.

Learner drivers will not be allowed to complete the learner log book at the VicRoads Customer Service Centre on the day of their drive test appointment.

Anyone aged 21 or older doesn’t need to fill out a log book or complete any minimum amount of supervised driving.
