What’s in the learner kit?
The learner kit has information for you and your supervising driver to use when preparing for your Ps. You can use the book to plan and practice driving tasks as you move through the stages of the learner period.
New distracted driver road rules
The learner kit has been updated with changes to new road rules regarding the use of portable, wearable, inbuilt, and mounted devices while driving a vehicle or riding a motorbike. Penalties apply for the use of these devices and for seatbelt related offences that are now detectable by cameras.

- Learner log book - to record your practice hours road types and conditions.

Where can I get a copy?
We’ll give you the Learner Kit when you pass your learner permit knowledge test and pay the learner permit fee at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre.
How much does it cost?
The Learner Kit is a free resource for you and your supervising driver.
Does the learner kit come in different languages?
A hard copy version of the learner kit is available in English only, however, it is available online in the following languages:
- English
- Arabic
- Turkish
- Chinese (Mandarin) and
- Vietnamese.
What if my logbook is lost or damaged?
If your logbook gets lost or destroyed, you’ll need to re-enter your supervised driving sessions in a replacement logbook, that’s signed by your supervising driver.
The declaration of completion at the end of the book also needs to be signed by both you and your supervising driver. VicRoads won’t accept photocopied pages to prove you’ve completed your hours.
